“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” . -2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV
Our Leaders Need Your Prayers
It’s election season. Our government is in the forefront of our minds as we listen to debates, read up on the candidates, and learn about the issues that we’ll see on the ballot in November.
But if we’re not careful, the focus on politics may lead to thoughts and conversations that go against what God commands.
Romans 13:1-2 says, “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.”
God wants you to see your leaders and rulers differently than others would. He not only commands you to pray, but to intercede and to give thanks for those running our country—even the leaders who make questionable decisions. He doesn’t expect you to agree with them all of the time—only to respect and honor them for the position they hold.
The United States of America is a blessed nation. We’re safe, food and water are plentiful, we can worship God without fearing for our lives, most people have jobs, and quality healthcare is all around us. Give thanks to our military, first responders, and federal and local governments for preserving the freedoms we know and cherish.
Ask God how you can be an active agent of positive change in our country. Maybe He wants you to volunteer with a charity, foster or adopt a child, or serve the poor. Our country needs you to earnestly pray and to get involved.
